A bustling city with a metropolitan area expected to reach 20 million inhabitants by 2020, Ho Chi Minh City is not an easy place for orphaned and abandoned children to access the support and services they need. Orphanage Truyen Tin is an important community project which provides shelter, food and educational resources for children in Ho Chi Minh City.
Back when Orphanage Truyen Tin was first founded, the conditions were very uncomfortable. In spite of these difficulties, nuns from a local convent, committed to their vows of service, dedicated their lives to improving the lives of the young women and children served by this facility.
Welcome Truyen Tin Orphanage Supporters
Since the founding of Orphanage Truyen Tin, Nguyen has relied on the charity of local nuns and the neighboring community to help attend to the needs of the children she supports.
“Before the establishment of Truyen Tin Orphanage, I worked and taught cooking classes, and was hired to cook food on occasion such as weddings, birthday parties and other private events. During that time, I met many unfortunate and poor people.
I began to feel sorry for their lives and wanted to help them. It was then that I committed my life to God and to the helping of such people. I left my past behind in order to be of service to the unfortunate ones that crossed my path, especially abandoned children and single mothers.
I decided to build a house where I could receive and help them. Before establishing the orphanage, I used to live in an abbey. Everyday I helped and prayed for HIV/AIDS patients, handicapped people and orphans.”
Every Child Deserves a Fresh Start
Orphanage Truyen Tin provides a home and source of loving support for street children without anywhere else to go. As a completely self-run charity, the orphanage cannot survive without the assistance of contributions from supporters.
When asked how the nuns who help support this orphanage come up with the resources they need to keep the orphanage going, their answer was simple: “we pray”.
“I shall pass through this world but once. Any good that I can do, or any kindness that I can show to any human being, let me do it now and not defer it. For I shall not pass this way again.” –Stephen Grellet
