The World’s Greatest Animal Project is an ambitious undertaking with the aim of solving one of the greatest untold tales in human history. How animals have not only shaped our entire culture but progressively become victims of an increasingly industrialised mass-agriculture industry that is causing untold damage not only to the planet but to the creatures that have shaped our cultures, lives and past.
Every day, millions of animals are abused by criminals, kept in cramped and appalling conditions, or slaughtered in the cruellest way, to feed an industry, that can never be satisfied. Yet nobody knows what is happening. This industry sanitizes our meat and other animal products, packaging them in plastic, so we forget that it comes from a living thing. It relies on our ignorance, willful and otherwise, in order to continue committing one of the greatest crimes in our shared history.
History has shown us, time and again, that the best way to combat injustice and that is education. Steven Z.A.’s vision is to bring the parallel history of animals to classrooms around the world and create a global movement to end the mistreatment of animals, fish, whales, dolphins and any creature that shares this beautiful fragile planet with humanity.
Welcome to the World’s Greatest Animal Project
Humanity and animals have been linked since ancient man etched pictures of buffalo on cave walls in France. It’s a shared history of triumph and pain and it is one that remains largely untold.
Despite the increasingly compelling body of evidence that animals are deeply intelligent beings, capable of affection, suffering, pain, love, and fear; we have been unable to change our broken system.
Despite the hard-won victories, atrocities are still committed every single day:
- Crocodiles are skinned alive to make handbags
- Whales and Dolphins are slaughtered for “science”
- Cows and Pigs are pumped full of antibiotics and kept in cramped cages
- Dogs are beaten and forced to fight for the amusement of crowds
- Pangolins are trafficked and many die on the way
- Tigers and Lions are shot for Chinese medicine
- Elephants and Rhinos are hunted for their ivory
The list goes on, and on and on…
Taken in isolation, each event is horrific, but as Tom Regan said in his book, The Case for Animal Rights, “What’s wrong -fundamentally wrong- with the way animals are treated isn’t the details that vary from case to case. It’s the whole system.” Those words were true twenty years ago and they are still true today.
This system thrives on ignorance. By sanitizing the slaughter process, packaging meat in plastics, shouting down anyone who asks questions, by creating a disconnect between the food we eat, the clothes we wear, and the animals who suffered to create them; this broken system is able to thrive and prosper.
Building on Tom Regan’s work, Steven realized that the best way we can fix the system is through education. He believes that by teaching children about our history with animals, the good and the bad, we will be able to teach them empathy and shed light upon the abuse still happening today. To achieve this, Steven’s ambition is to create a global curriculum on our parallel history with animals.
Help Transform The Way Our Children See Animals
Steven is an experienced documentary filmmaker and the idea for Animals: A Parallel History first came to him during research for other documentaries He came across Jumbo, the largest known elephant in the World, from Barnum and Bailey’s circus. This led to him discovering more about the important role animals have played in our shared history. It was a history of triumph and tragedy, one of truly touching moments and shocking cruelty. Steven was shocked that this history was not taught in schools and so made it his mission to change the World.
His project consists of Four components:
- a feature documentary
- 2 books
- a compelling website
- a travelling exhibition
The rough cut of the documentary has already been shot but we need your help in order to make this film into a reality.
The film will help to underpin the larger goal of the organization. Once it is complete, we will take it to film festivals around the World, contact as many educational boards as we can and offer the materials they need to create an Animal History course. We are already in talks with schools and organizations in China, India and the United States Of America.
While we will begin with experimental classes our eventual goal is to make Animal History a mandatory class or even part of a classic History education in schools around the World. We also welcome partnerships with organizations, individuals, teachers and educational boards from across the globe.
Your Help Will Make The World’s Greatest Animal Project a Reality
We have attempted to approach large animal welfare organizations for assistance and funding but they have proven dismissive at best and hostile at worst. It is only thanks to grass roots movements and people like yourselves that we are able to make this project a reality.
Every donation, no matter how small, helps us to build a Curriculum that we believe will finally break the broken system of industrialised animal abuse. Mass Agriculture is killing our planet; habitats are being destroyed to make grazing fields, animals are abused daily and carbon emissions are contributing to climate change. The best way we can change this is through education.
Our project is but one of many candles that we believe will illuminate the darkness and enlighten the world.
This small flame could ignite the fire that will end this injustice by reminding humanity that animals have been with us since the beginning and that we have a duty of care to these amazing creatures.
We can’t do this without you!
